MICHELIN bicycle tyres
Michelin has been developing tyres for various vehicles for more than 1§30 years, and in 1891 developed the detachable bicycle tyre – pioneering in the development of future tyres. With a market presence in more than 170 countries, Michelin now equips cyclists all over the world with suitable tyres. Products are developed, analysed, and comprehensively tested in a technology centre and four test centres.
When manufacturing, Michelin places particular value on the durability of its tyres – regardless of the intended vehicle – and this is also with a view to protecting the environment, as Michelin strives to increase sustainability and aspires to achieve CO2-neutral production, while also reducing its own environmental footprint.rn.

Tyres from the traditional manufacturer, Michelin: a solid choice
Michelin divides its bicycle tyre range into three main categories: racing bikes, city bikes, and mountain bikes. These are in turn divided into sub-categories, whereby some tyres can of course be used for multiple purposes. Here you can also find suitable tyres for the ride to work, or for the occasional cycling tour. Michelin cycling tyres also cover the most popular riding styles, sports, and types of terrain. Michelin offers racing bike tyres for gravel, training, cyclocross, and racing. For MTB riders, the manufacturer categorises its product range as follows: Enduro, Cross Country, E-Bike, All-Mountain, Downhill and Freestyle. The ""City"" category was created for city riding, trekking and tyres for children's bikes. On the whole, the selection of Michelin tyres is a little smaller than that offered by comparable manufacturers, however, as a result, each tyre is precisely tailored to its respective area of use.
Tyre technology, puncture protection, and treads from Michelin.
Michelin also makes use of various technologies and rubber compounds in order to get the most out of every tyre, and is continually working on the development of new treads, running surfaces, carcasses, and other product components.
Michelin rubber compounds
In terms of rubber compounds, Michelin draws on its expertise from the automotive sector and produces both single, dual, and triple compounds.
GUM-X2D: dual compound for dry and hard surfaces
GUM-X3D: Triple compound for exceptional road-holding in corners, even on wet surfaces
MAGI-X2: soft rubber compounds with particularly high grip
X-MILES: compound for particularly long-lasting tyres
Tyre treads for various terrains
When developing treads, the French manufacturer takes into account the specific area of use. Which tread is the right one will depend on the ground surface. Slim road tyres and bicycle tyres are generally have no tread, or only a very fine tread. For loose or muddy surfaces, on the other hand, lugs in the tread are required. Therefore, these are essential on trekking and MTB tyres – in some cases these are now mounted on the shoulder of the tyre, making the tyres more versatile.
Here are the popular treads from Michelin:
GRIP DESIGN: perfect for rainy weather
HIGH-GRIP DESIGN: all-rounder for all weather conditions
GRAVEL DESIGN: secure grip on trails
Various puncture protection layers
Thanks to special puncture protection layers in the running surface and side walls, Michelin provides additional protection against damage.
BEAD 2 BEAD PROTEK: reinforced side walls and running surface, for maximum protection
ARAMID PROTEK PLUS: particularly thick aramid puncture protection wall in the running surface.
ARAMID PROTEK: puncture protection layer made of durable aramide in the running surface
PINCH PROTECTION: reinforcement of the bead area (in MTB tyres)
Conclusion: a small selection from a manufturer with significant expertise
Although, depending on the riding style and wheel type, the product range from Michelin is not as extensive as that of other manufacturers, the manufacturer impresses with its vast experience in tyre production. Michelin tyres therefore enjoy great popularity. Classics such as the Wild AM tyre, which scores points for its trail characteristics, is used particularly often. Many tyres from Michelin are also E-bike ready – however, care has to be taken to allow for the high speeds.
