All motorcycle tyre types
All motorcycle tyre brands
Anyone who visits the racetrack frequently on their motorcycle, or even competes, should use special racing tyres. On the outside, they don't look much different from conventional tyres. But the riders who use tyres with the right characteristics for racing have a greater chance of achieving personal best times.
That is what good tyres have to do
For racing tyres, the internal values also count. That starts with the material. The rubber compound of motorcycle racing tyres must deliver excellent performance, even at high temperatures. Because at top speeds, the tyres inevitably heat up considerably - and even more so when braking manoeuvres are involved. At the same time, racing tyres must be controllable and easy to steer at all times - especially at speeds of several hundred kilometres an hour and during hard acceleration. Here, the optimised tread design ensures grip and control. Racing tyres that are also used on the road also need to be road approved.
The service life of racing tyres
Racing tyres are often subjected to much greater stress than traditional motorcycle tyres. This inevitably has an impact on the service life. However, it's difficult to make generalisations in this respect because the intensity of use and the model often vary greatly. While hobby riders sometimes use racing tyres for several thousand kilometres, ambitious racers may change their soft models after just a few hundred kilometres to benefit from the best possible grip. In general, the occasional rider should change their racing tyres after five years at the latest because the rubber that is used will age and become brittle.

Which tyre type do you require?
The selection of the tyre type depends first and foremost on the model of the motorcycle and the intended use.
Thus, motocross tyres are intended for off-road riding. There are, however, other difference that must also be considered in terms of the tread design - depending on how hard or soft the soil is.
Chopper and cruiser tyres, on the other hand, play to their strengths on long journeys. They are characterised not only by their excellent drive comfort, but also by an above-average running performance.
Enduro tyres are a compromise between the tyre types outlined above. They are certainly passable when off-road, but are also well-suited for road driving.
Racing tyres are most at home on the race track. Special material blends ensure that the tyres master even the highest of speeds.
Touring tyres, on the other hand, impress with a consistent drive behaviour on long journeys, and also maintain their level of performance in the rain.
Sport tyres are not just suitable for use on public roads. With these tyres, which are designed for a sporty driving style, you can also take in a few laps of the racetrack.
