Grabber Cross A/S – beyond the road
High traction and comfort on all surfaces
With the Grabber Cross A/S, the traditional American brand General Tire has launched an all-season tyre that combines safe driving in summer and winter with off-road capability. Under the slogan ‘Beyond the road’, this robust 4x4 tyre offers good handling on asphalt, protection against aquaplaning, safe driving in both warm and cold weather, high mileage and good off-road traction.
To achieve exceptional handling performance on all surfaces, General Tire opted for a combination of a stiff tread and a cut- and chip-resistant rubber compound when developing the Grabber Cross A/S.
For use on dry roads, the tyre developers have integrated support elements between the blocks, which make the tread particularly stiff and ensure reliable performance. This design also ensures even pressure distribution. This not only allows steering commands to be implemented precisely, but also means that longer distances can be covered at higher speeds without compromising mileage. Further advantages include driving comfort and low rolling noise even at high mileage.
Hexagonal blocks with gripping edges ensure traction on loose surfaces. The edges of the tread grooves are bevelled, which further improves performance on off-road terrain. In addition, the Grabber Cross A/S features a particularly cut- and chip-resistant crossover rubber compound that increases the tyre's robustness on rough terrain. Transverse and longitudinal sipes in the tread blocks ensure good grip on wet and snow-covered roads, while the open tyre shoulder accelerates water displacement when driving in the rain, thus preventing aquaplaning efficiently and safely.
Manufacturer information
EU Tyre Label
The Tyre Labelling Regulation determines the information that must be provided with regard to tyres' fuel efficiency, wet grip and external rolling noise. Information is also provided on the product's performance in wintery driving conditions.
Regulation EU 1222/2009, which has been in force since 01/11/2012, has been revised and will be replaced from 1 May 2021 by Regulation EU 2020/740, from which point new standards will apply. The assessment categories for fuel efficiency, wet grip and external noise have been changed and the layout of the EU label has been changed accordingly. The manufacturers' product data sheets, stored in the EU database, can be downloaded via a QR code integrated into the label. It also includes information on snow grip and ice grip for tyres that meet these criteria.
The following tyres are exempt from the regulation:
- Tyres designed to be fitted only to vehicles registered for the first time before 1 October 1990
- Remoulded tyres (until Regulation EU 2020/740 has been widened accordingly)
- Professional off-road tyres
- Racing tyres
- Tyres with additional devices to improve traction, e.g. studded tyres
- Temporary-use spare tyres (T-type tyres)
- Tyres with a speed rating below 80 km/h
- Tyres with a nominal rim diameter of 254 mm or less and 635 mm or more
