ET 35 rims: Offset and position in the wheel arch

ET 35 rims have an offset of 35 millimetres. The offset describes the distance between the geometric centre of the rim and the contact surface on the wheel hub. With a positive offset of 35 millimetres, this contact surface lies outside the centre of the rim.

Compared to a rim with a lower Offset, an ET 35 rim sits further inwards in the wheel arch for the same width. Compared to a rim with a higher ET value, it sits correspondingly further outwards. As a result, the Offset influences both the appearance and the clearance to the bodywork, chassis and braking system.

Technical requirements for ET 35

Whether a rim with an ET of 35 is suitable for a particular vehicle does not depend solely on the Offset. Equally important are rim width, rim diameter, Bolt circle, centre hole, load capacity and tyre size.

An unsuitable combination can result in the tyres or rims coming into contact with parts of the chassis or bodywork when steering or during suspension travel. There must also be sufficient clearance from the braking system. The vehicle documents, as well as the General Operating Permission (ABE), ECE approval or the parts certificate for the respective rim, are therefore decisive.

Alloy rims and steel rims with ET 35

Rims with ET 35 are available both as alloy rims and as steel rims. For alloy rims, this offset is common in many vehicle applications. The offer extends from classic five-spoke rims through sporty double-spoke designs to delicate multi-spoke designs. Common finishes include silver, black, anthracite or bronze.

Steel rims with an ET of 35 are primarily used as a functional and robust solution, for example for winter tyres or as a cost-effective replacement. Their simple construction and generally lower purchase price make them particularly attractive for everyday use.
