ET 45 Rims: a common Offset on modern vehicles

ET 45 rims have an offset of 45 millimetres. This refers to the distance between the centre of the rim and the contact surface on the wheel hub. With the same rim width, a wheel with an ET of 45 sits further inside the wheel arch than, for example, a rim with an ET of 35 or 40.

This offset is common on many modern passenger cars because it allows for a comparatively more inward wheel position. This can be particularly relevant for vehicles with compact wheel arches or larger braking systems. However, the decisive factor is always the combination of rim width, rim diameter and offset.

What are the implications of ET 45?

The offset not only affects the appearance but also the technical installation conditions. A rim must not come into contact with the strut, the brake caliper or any other chassis components. At the same time, there must be sufficient space on the outside relative to the mudguard.

When changing from a different offset to ET 45, the track width may change. For this reason, in addition to the ET value, you should also check the Bolt circle, centre bore, load capacity, tyre size and compatibility. The vehicle documentation and the approval for the respective Rim are binding.

Steel rims with ET 45

Steel rims are also offered with ET 45. They are primarily used as winter wheels, spare wheels or on vehicles designed for practicality. Suppliers such as ALCAR, MW and Accuride stock steel rims for numerous vehicle models.

Steel rims score highly, particularly for their robust construction and generally lower purchase price, whilst Alloy rims offer a significantly wider choice of designs and finishes.
