ET 37 rims: Offset and position on the vehicle

ET 37 rims have an offset of 37 millimetres. This value describes the distance between the geometric centre of the rim and the contact surface by which the rim is attached to the wheel hub. With a positive offset of 37 millimetres, the mounting surface is located outside the centre of the rim.

Compared to a rim with a lower offset, an ET 37 rim sits further inwards in the wheel arch when the width is the same. Compared to a rim with a higher ET value, it sits correspondingly further outwards. The offset therefore influences both the appearance and the clearance between the wheel, bodywork, chassis and braking system.

Selecting an ET 37 to suit your vehicle

Whether a rim with an ET of 37 is suitable for a particular vehicle cannot be determined by the offset alone. Equally important are rim width, rim diameter, Bolt circle, centre bore, load capacity and permissible tyre size.

If the combination is unsuitable, the tyre may rub against the bodywork when the suspension compresses or when steering. There must also be sufficient clearance on the inside from the strut, brake caliper and other chassis components. The vehicle documents, as well as the ABE, ECE approval or the parts certificate for the respective rim, are therefore decisive.

Rims with ET 37 are available both as alloy rims and as steel rims. Alloy wheels offer a particularly wide range of designs. These include classic five-spoke wheels, sporty double-spoke designs and delicate multi-spoke rims. There is also a wide choice of finishes, such as silver, black, anthracite or bronze.

Steel rims are usually designed with functionality in mind and are often used for winter tyres or as a cost-effective replacement option. They are characterised by their robust construction and a comparatively simple appearance.
