Tailor-made specification:
For motorcycles with a displacement of over 999 cc, 200 hp is now standard, with some superbikes and hypernakeds even reaching a power level of more than 215 hp. But there are also 600cc supersport bikes and naked bikes, which are in almost the same weight class but have significantly less engine power. And then, of course, there are the sporty crossover bikes, which still deliver an impressive 160 hp despite weighing up to 240 kilograms.
Front tyre construction:
The increased specific rayon thread stiffness, achieved through thicker individual threads and stronger twisting of the thread strands, allows for a lower total number of rayon strands and optimal distribution across the tyre contour. As a result, the stiffness of the DIABLO ROSSO™ IV carcass varies depending on the lean angle, ensuring outstanding handling, excellent feedback and stability in all situations.
Rear tyre construction up to 190/50 ZR 17:
DIABLO ROSSO™ IV rear tyres up to Size 190/50 ZR 17 feature a 2-ply rayon strand structure. The strand stiffness has been increased by more than 30% compared to the DIABLO ROSSO™ III. This has reduced the number of strands and increased the space for the tread compound, which has further improved grip and wear behaviour.
Rear tyre construction from 190/55 ZR 17:
Pirelli engineers have used their expertise from WSBK to develop a racing-style construction for the DIABLO ROSSO™ IV. The successor to the DIABLO ROSSO™ III has a Lyocell structure with 3 threads per strand, which results in a significantly lower degree of deformation than is usual for road tyres. The result is outstanding traction at full throttle, regardless of the lean angle.
Tyre contour:
The DIABLO ROSSO™ IV has a racing-oriented contour derived from WSBK. The cross-section has several sharp radii, which not only enable a quick transition from a lean angle to an upright position, but also quick changes of direction, while a flatter tread on the tyre shoulder ensures high grip and directional stability in corners. The optimised sidewall height ensures optimum traction both when riding in a straight line and when exiting corners. The balance between the front and rear tyre contours ensures excellent control and neutral handling.
Compounds:
The dual-compound front tyre is based on a cap & base layout. For motorcycles with low to medium displacement, the DIABLO ROSSO™ IV rear tyre has a dual-compound structure, while the sizes for superbikes and hypernakeds have three compounds on the rear tyre.
Front tyre compounds:
The hard compound provides excellent grip in cold and wet conditions thanks to its high silica content and low glass transition temperature (Tg) of the polymers. The softer compound on the sides (which is reached at lean angles above 35°) offers outstanding grip and provides excellent feedback. This combination makes it possible to correct the line even when leaning or to brake into the corner.
Compounds Dual-compound rear tyre, up to 190/50 ZR 17:
The dual-compound rear tyre with full silica compound offers a fast warm-up phase, remarkable grip levels at any lean angle (even in wet conditions) and impressive handling. In terms of the tyre's contact patch, a dual-compound mixture with less mixture discontinuity in smaller dimensions ensures better load distribution and thus a homogeneous riding feel and even wear.
Mixtures Tri-compound rear tyres, from 190/55 ZR 17:
With the introduction of a long-distance racing compound on the shoulders, the 5-zone layout allows for a compromise between Wet grip, maximum grip at extreme lean angles and high cornering speeds, and the ability to cope with the immense engine power of modern performance bikes. The soft full-silica rubber compound in the transition zone offers performance and a safe, sporty riding experience in all weather conditions.
Tread and profile:
As a distinctive feature of Pirelli's sporty products, the DIABLO ROSSO™ IV profile was developed around the FLASH symbol: the familiar tread grooves in the centre that ensure directional stability and abrasion resistance. FLASH is also responsible for diverting water from the centre to the outside when driving in a straight line. FLASH elements of varying lengths are distributed around the central Design, extending the Tread around the central grooves. The FLASH Design has a significant influence on the Tyre's handling. It ensures the correct flexibility of the Tyre, enables efficient water dispersion and guarantees even wear. The tread design of the DIABLO ROSSO™ IV, with its transition area to the tyre shoulder designed more towards a slick, is a further development of the DIABLO ROSSO™ III and offers even more grip at lean angles of over 35°, where water displacement no longer plays a role. Its large slick area on the shoulders enables excellent grip and precise line control even at maximum lean angles. In addition to its super-sporty look, the FLASH tread pattern is also very important for the performance of the DIABLO ROSSO™ IV.
