Driving safety on snow-covered roads
K-Sipe Control (3D sipes): Kumho Tyre's 3D SIPE technology (K SIPE CONTROL) is used to effectively transfer braking and driving forces to the road surface. This ensures optimum handling and braking performance even in emergency situations.
Special rubber compound with natural oil: Kumho's special winter rubber compound, which contains sunflower oil, among other ingredients, has greater elasticity, which improves traction. This keeps the rubber of the Wintercraft WP52+ flexible even in cold temperatures for high traction, better stability and increased safety on snowy roads.
Wet handling and braking
Optimal contact area: the optimised contact pressure of the Wintercraft WP52+ has been developed to reduce irregular tread wear and premature abrasion of the shoulder blocks while maintaining driving comfort.
Improved braking performance: thanks to a new, cross-linked polymer raw material with high viscosity and hysteresis, the tyre offers better grip on all road surfaces and improved braking performance.
Braking
Interlocking 3D sipes: the new tread pattern with a high density of multiple sipes increases block stiffness, ensures better grip on snow and improves handling in all winter conditions.
High-strength tread structure: the double-layer structure improves driving stability at high speeds and handling. High-strength/ultra-light cord insert, optimised tread stiffness and an enlarged contact patch ensure excellent driving stability.
Suitability for electric vehicles
Designed for high loads.
Tread reinforcement: the use of high-strength steel belts improves durability, prevents tread deformation and minimises movement while driving.
Use of high-strength carcass layers: the use of high-strength polyester threads in the construction of the tyre carcass improves stability when driving at high speeds.
‘HL’ sizes available - developed for heavy EVs. According to ETRTO, high load tyres (HL) are extra load tyres designed to carry a higher load at the same reference pressure.
EV rubber compound: the use of an EV-specific compound has resulted in a 10% improvement in wear and a 5% reduction in rolling resistance.
Tread design
Snow ejection system: the optimised design in the centre of the tread reduces snow adhesion to ensure stability on snow-covered roads.
Tread wear indicator: The hourglass shape of the wear indicator makes it easy to check tread wear and the remaining tyre performance in snow.
Sidewall design
Kumho Tyres' unique diamond-shaped surface pattern resembles stylised snow crystals, visually implying the tyre's winter suitability. Winter suitability on snowy and wet roads is particularly emphasised by the ‘snowflake’ design motif.
Manufacturer information
EU Tyre Label
The Tyre Labelling Regulation determines the information that must be provided with regard to tyres' fuel efficiency, wet grip and external rolling noise. Information is also provided on the product's performance in wintery driving conditions.
Regulation EU 1222/2009, which has been in force since 01/11/2012, has been revised and will be replaced from 1 May 2021 by Regulation EU 2020/740, from which point new standards will apply. The assessment categories for fuel efficiency, wet grip and external noise have been changed and the layout of the EU label has been changed accordingly. The manufacturers' product data sheets, stored in the EU database, can be downloaded via a QR code integrated into the label. It also includes information on snow grip and ice grip for tyres that meet these criteria.
The following tyres are exempt from the regulation:
- Tyres designed to be fitted only to vehicles registered for the first time before 1 October 1990
- Remoulded tyres (until Regulation EU 2020/740 has been widened accordingly)
- Professional off-road tyres
- Racing tyres
- Tyres with additional devices to improve traction, e.g. studded tyres
- Temporary-use spare tyres (T-type tyres)
- Tyres with a speed rating below 80 km/h
- Tyres with a nominal rim diameter of 254 mm or less and 635 mm or more
